Is HS hereditary?
I have hidradentitis suppurativa and I’m worried whether my children are likely to inherit it? If yes, Is there anything I can do to try and minimise the risk for them?

Re: Is HS hereditary?
Thankyou for your question.
Some recent studies performed looking into the genetics of HS have shown that family members do have an increased risk of developing HS. One third of patients with HS have a family history. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done to prevent your children from developing the condition. However making sure that are generally healthy, not overweight and have a balanced diet may reduce the severity if they were to develop any lesions. I would suggest early intervention by a Dermatologist if they do develop any boils or abscesses.
