Are there other options to continence pants?

I have severe bowel and bladder incontinence which is really getting me down. I have to wear continence pants and need to know what other options are open to me please as my life feels controlled by my continence.

Re: Are there other options to continence pants?

Dear Sally

Both types of incontinence are related but also need to be investigated independently. The order of which they are managed are with the predominant being treated first. However there is a close relationship with both types of incontinence and treatment for one can help the other. For example, urinary incontinence treatment can include anticholinergics which can cause constipation which can help diarrhoea symptoms and bowel incontinence.

However, if after initial treatments have failed there is a defined role for sacral neuromodulation when treating a combination of urinary and bowel incontinence. This is because the sacral nerve suppling the bladder also supplies the bowel. SNM stimulates this nerve and has a positive effect on both types of incontinence.
