is this scabies

for four years ive been itching and have little brown spots that look like freckles coming up all over my body. My hair and eyelashes are falling out, also my pubic hair. i also have red spots that scab over and take ages to heal. My skin is now going numb, and i have no sensation in genital area. my scalp and face are affected with the red spots too.ive visited the doctor many times and they say its nothing to worry about!! i live with my two daughters and they say they dont feel any itching, i am really worried that it could be scabies and have become a complete recluse. i am so worried that i will cause an outbreak of whatever this is. My daughters both have boyfriend for two years and they display no symptoms. Could it be contagious if noone else has it after all this time? I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this as i am so worried and the doctors are dismissive and treat me as being dillusional, but the symptoms are real, Does it sound like any condititon you re familiar with? i would be so grateful if you could reply to me. many thanks

Re: is this scabies

Dear dianekel,

Thank you for your post.

From the symptoms you describe, it does not sound like a contagious scabies infection. Scabies infection is caused by mites that burrow under the skin, causing an itchy rash and burrow marks which can be found anywhere on the body. They're short (1cm or less), wavy, silver-coloured lines on the skin, with a black dot at one end that can be seen with a magnifying glass.

I can appreciate how frustrating these persistent symptoms are and they do sound very troubling. I really must advise you to persevere with your GP, or perhaps ask for a review with an alternative GP at your practice?

I am particularly concerned about your lack of sensation in the genital area. Perhaps you might feel more comfortable seeing a specialist in this area? You could always visit your local sexual health clinic who may be able to look into this symptom further. To find the details of your local free and confidential service, visit the NHS Choices, services near you website, or use this address http://www.nhs.uk/service-search.

I am sorry you feel so anxious and worried about these symptoms however am certain that for your own peace of mind you need to make a further appointment and have a check up.

Do let me know how you get on,

Best wishes,

Justine
