GP prescribed antibiotics for vaginal pain without any exam

Hi all,

I have been experiencing vaginal pain for the last 4-5 months, so went to my GP hoping to get a referral to a gynecologist, but instead he asked me a few questions, pushed my belly a couple of times and then just prescribed me antibiotics.
Is this normal?
I do not want to take antibiotics without a good reason. I really don't understand how can someone do this without even examining the issue.
Anybody has ever experienced something like this? Any tips on how to get referred to a gynecologist?
I feel something is really wrong, so I am in panic and I really want to see a specialist I could trust.

Simply ask for a referral form a supportive GP.
