External vaginal itch?

This is quite embarrassing for me to talk about, but I'm hoping somebody could help me out.

For a while now I have had a slight itch on what according to diagrams is the vulva vestibule, this had been an issue shortly in June, prompting me to get a self-test kit for STDs from the NHS, the results of which showed that I had not contracted anything.
This lasted for a few weeks and eventually went away, while this was ongoing I used canestest to see if it was another form of infection, however that didn't go to plan as it was very painful to use due to having a rough surface.
This first bout occurred about a month after getting nexplanon.

For the past 3 weeks, I have been experiencing the same itch again, it is typically a light itch and not noticeable much throughout the day, it is usually not painful however I have irritated it and it currently hurts (comparable to a light chemical burn.) I haven't been sexually active since well before the last incident.

There is no redness, and the itch is only external, not internal, and localized to specific areas which makes me question whether it can be thrush. There have also not been any changes to discharge or smells which makes me doubtful that this is bacterial vaginosis. I also don't have any pain urinating.

I had bought treatment for both bacterial vaginosis and thrush however am very wary of using these as I am aware that they can upset the vaginal microbiome and lead to recurrent infection, hence if I use them I want to be sure that I use the correct medication.

I have never previously experienced any gynecological issues so am unaware of what thrush and vaginosis would actually feel like other than what I have read on internet pages.

Is there anything else that could be causing this? Or does this seem typical of thrush/BV? Or is it normal to experience?

I'm very reluctant to see my GP as I recently had a very poor experience and the only sexual health clinic within my area had 1 month+ waiting times for appointments.

Re: External vaginal itch?

HI 07092019

Thank you for your post. We appreciate the courage it must have taken to write it.

Please have a look at one of our past online clinics for bladder issues which you may find helpful, http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/on ... s_2019.php. Our members may also have some advice/experience to pass on too.

However, if the problem does persist we would strongly urge you to see your GP, you could always ask at reception for a female GP or a GP that specialises in gynaecology if this would make things a bit more comfortable for you.

Please let us know how you get on.

Kind regards
talkhealth team
