Birth Control & Eating Disorder Recovery
Hi everyone , I've started to have disordered eating patterns when I was 18-19 years old and my periods have been off. They were not super regular before that either, but after the cycles of restriction & bingeing - that lasted for many years - I have lost my period. I have been slightly overweight, then quite underweight, then had fluctuations. The thing is, I was chronically undereating & then bingeing, then repeat.
My gynaecologist has prescibed Belara in order to gain my period back (after hormonal tests, that showed that my hormones are quite unbalanced: 'female' ones are down, and 'male' ones are up) however I did not disclose that I've had an eating disorder.
I am now recovering my weight and making sure I actually eat enough. I wonder if losing period happened due to my eating patterns. Is it safe to assume that if I get back into normal eating, my hormones will balance out over time, too? I am not sure if taking birth control is necessary and i don't want to be putting unneeded hormones in my body!
Advice much appreciated <3
