Re: contraceptive pill- no period

Hello,

Thank you for your post. I think it's perhaps the Brevinor pill you are taking?

Brevinor is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) which contains both the oestrogen component (ethinylestradiol) and progestogen component (norethisterone). It is generally taken for 21 days starting on the first day of your period with a 7 day break before starting the next pack. However, sometimes, on medical advice, a patient may run two (or more) packs together which would prevent a bleed occuring.

Due to the action of the ingredients in this tablet, bleeds may become irregular, lighter than usual or even occassionally not occur during the 7 day break. Patients on COC's should have regular check ups and blood pressure measurements taken to ensure that they are on the most effective and correct contraceptive for them.
It is important to note any irregularities and highlight these to the GP or nurse at your next appointment.

If the tablets have not been taken correctly - perhaps a dose has been missed or you have been unwell during part of your cycle and have vomitted - the contraceptive effect may not be maintained. If this is the case, a pregnancy test should be carried out and a follow up appointment made with your GP or family planning clinic for further advice.

In this instance, from the information you have provided, I would advice that unless you have missed a dose of your pill or been unwell during your cycle, there is no cause for concern and you should document that you have not bled as yet and highlight this at your next GP or nurse check up. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to make an appointment with your GP, nurse or family planning clinic to discuss your contraceptive choice.

Take care,
Sarah
