Received oral with possible blood present

I am a female and i received oral sex from male who had a scabbed burn on his lip. Im umsure if it was bleeding. If it was, would this be a hiv risk? If there was blood present would it have needed to have been a large amount of blood to pass hiv on?

Re: Received oral with possible blood present

Dear Cherry84,

Thank you for posting your question.

Information from HIVaware.org.uk is that HIV is passed on through infected bodily fluids. The risk of HIV transmission from performing oral sex is low but it can still happen. It is best to avoid giving oral sex if you have cuts or sores in your mouth or bleeding gums, as this increases the risk of HIV entering the body.

If you think you have exposed yourself to risk of HIV, don't wait or do nothing – it's important to seek advice from your local sexual health clinic as soon as possible. You can get a HIV test with accurate results from 4 weeks after potential infection.

To find your local clinic, please access the 'services near you' section of the NHS choices website, searching for sexual health clinics.

I hope this information is useful to you - more can be found on the website http://www.hivaware.org.uk/

Kind regards,

Justine
