New here 35 years old sugical menopause

Hi :)

Just wanted to introduce my self I`m 35 have a partner and 3 sons. In april 09 I was diagnosed with breast cancer which i had treatment for (double mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy) it was during treatment I was given a ct scan and it showed up a large cyst on the ovary, to cut a long story short in Jan I was given hysterectomy and the cyst turned out to be borderline cancer so it turned out it was for the best and I need no further treatment re this.

Nobody really warned me or spoke to me about the menopause and around a week after surgery symtoms hit me like a ton of bricks, flushes, night sweats, lack of sleep, panic feeling, palpatations, feeling weak, heavy feeling around chest and neck, sometimes I feel out of breath but i`m not really really hard to explain. dont know what symptoms are down to menopause though and i am waiting on a referal to menopause clinic for some remidies and advice as because my breast cancer was hormone led I cannot take hrt etc.

So thats me....

xxxx

Welcome to talkmenopause. You have really been through it by the sounds of it. My mother also was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 50. She had a single mastectomy but was put onto Tomoxifen and this by-passed the menopause for her. To be honest I don't know much about how these things work with things like breast cancer and going through the menopause and what treatments there are to help.

However, we are running an expert open clinic on menopause for a week (25th-31st March) - http://talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/ ... m.php?f=25 - and I think this would be the perfect opportunity for you to ask your questions directly to our experts. And, I'm sure there are many many others out there that would benefit from what the experts say. If there's not a topic there that fits, please do start your own topic, and throughout the week our experts will be able to help I'm sure.

Re: New here 35 years old sugical menopause

I am sorry it sounds as if you have had a really tough time. Dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer as well as surgically induced menopause is really hard. It will be difficult to completely separate out those symptoms which are due to menopause and which are cancer treatment related and some will be a mixture of both. However I am sure that many will be menopause related and although you will not be eligible for estrogen therapy there are other solutions and therapies that are suitable which will be discussed at your menopause clinic appointment. It is really important that you have access to specialist menopause advice as you are young and you want to look to the future now and work towards keeping yourself as fit and healthy and as symptom free as possible. The good news is menopausal symptoms are a transition and the majority of women do eventually find their symptoms will recede, but young women and those who have surgically induced menopause often suffer more severe symptoms and for longer, which is why support from a specialist clinic will be helpful for you.
