So Im 24 years old and I am thinking Im going through Menopause. I had a baby Sept. 8, 2010 (So 6 1/2 months ago) and I went through my postpartum bleeding for 8 weeks but I have only had one period since then starting Feb.2 and last two weeks and it was very light bleeding when I am a unusually heavy bleeder. I have hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings like no other, and I my sex drive is non existant (Ive only had sex probably only 4 times since giving birth). Should I visit with my doctor or should I wait it out a bit more?

Hello - you are young to be going through the menopause but I guess it is possible.

We are running an expert open clinic on menopause for a week (25th-31st March) - http://talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/ ... m.php?f=25 - and I think this would be the perfect opportunity for you to ask your questions directly to our experts. And, I'm sure there are many many others out there that would benefit from what the experts say. If there's not a topic there that fits, please do start your own topic, and throughout the week our experts will be able to help I'm sure.

I hope this will help you.

Sometimes it does take a while for regular periods to return post-partum, particularly if you are breast feeding or under alot of stress with sleepless nights. Mood swings and loss of libido are not uncommon when you have a 6 month old baby as being a mother is a very demanding job! The hot flushes and night sweats are not so common but can develop in mothers who develop mastitis (infection in the breast )through breast feeding. Although early menopause is unlikely it would be helpful to talk to your GP or health visitor for support and if your symptoms continue they can arrange preliminary tests for you.
