Vitamin D deficiency hair loss!

I just got my blood test done by my GP for hair loss and fatigue and found out that I had severe Vitamin D deficiency and that was the reason behind loosing my lovely hair! I have been prescribed 7 weeks course of Vitamin D capsules but my concern is that as I am not an outdoor going person so would always have to rely on supplements but will it help with my hair loss as much as natural vitamin D!

Re: Vitamin D deficiency hair loss!

Dear Mayarose

Thank you for your query. The supplements will help with your symptoms associated with Vitamin D deficiency. There is no concern that this is coming from a tablet rather than the sun itself. However please be aware that the effect of any nutritional deficiency on hair can take many months to fully reverse even after you have completed your course of medication and the Vitamin D levels are back within range - there is usually a delay before you notice improvement in your hair, based on the fact that scalp hair generally only grows approx 1cm per month.

Best of luck,

Sharon
