Thank you for your query. Hair loss needs to be assessed and investigated by a specialist as there are many reasons why someone may be losing their hair - ranging from stress, nutritional deficiencies, hormone changes, thyroid disease, autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata, genetics to name a few. As a starting point I would advise your mum initially sees her GP who can run some basic blood tests to confirm or exclude some of these common causes and refer her on to a specialist if more detailed assessment and investigations are required.
