Menopause and hair loss

I would like to know if, after the menopause, my hair will go back to being strong and not fall/break anymore?

Re: Menopause and hair loss

Hi Carolle-Anne,

Thank you for your question.

Hair gets shorter and finer over time. In addition the most common problem causing hair loss in women is female pattern hair loss. This is seen most frequently after the menopause, however may start before the menopause and is slowly progressive over time.

Hair breakage and excessive shedding have a number of medical causes including genetic causes, immune causes, medications, deficiencies in the nutritional building blocks for your hair, inflammation of the hair follicles, just to name a few. It is unlikely the menopause would result in improvement of your symptoms. It would be best to see a medical practitioner to get a accurate diagnosis and thereafter information on what to expect.
