Chronic back pain

Just wondering what to do as my husband has chronic back pain (herniated discs) plus sarcoidosis, osteoporosis and COPD. He’s in such pain even after having a spinal chord stimulator fitted and four operations. Nothing has eased his pain and he struggles everyday. What can he do? Carole

Re: Chronic back pain

Hi Carole,

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's ongoing problems with back pain, in addition to his other health conditions.

As none of the treatments he has received so far have resolved his back pain, I can only suggest that he goes back to his GP and, if he hasn't already done so, ask to be referred to a specialist pain clinic.

Pain clinics aim to help patients access suitable treatments to enable them to manage their pain. Treatments offered might include pain relief medication, gentle exercise, the use of a TENS machine, psychological and complementary therapies, or even the option to join a self-help group.

I hope this information is of help to your husband.
