More likely to suffer from coughs and colds?

I’ve had psoriasis for over twenty years now, mainly over the trunk of my body currently waiting to see a dermatologist, can I ask if I am more likely to suffer from coughs and colds than someone who doesn’t have my condition, I have a healthy diet, don’t smoke or drink but when I get viruses they seem to hang around, I would like to add I’m only in my thirties, at the moment I’m suffering a chest infection and cannot shake it off?

What advice if any can you give?
Thank you, Amanda

Re: More likely to suffer from coughs and colds?

Dear Amanda,

Thank you for your question. No, psoriasis is not generally associated with excessive cold or coughs. In some patients a streptococcal type of bugs e.g. throat infection can cause a flare of psoriasis (usually guttate also known as 'rain drops' psoriasis), and this reason it has been suggested to treat sore throat infection with antibiotics in patients with psoriasis.

I hope this is helpful.
With Best Wishes,
