Sudden need to pee

Sudden need to pee
Hi. I'm 53 premenopausal, with usually excellent bladder control. Recently I have started to have the urgent need to go, sometimes just after emptying my bladder. It has been so bad on a occasion that I have experienced small leaks.
Any advice would be appreciated

Firstly I would attend your GP surgery to have a urine test to ensure you dont have a urine infection. If there is no infection it could be that you have an "overactive bladder". Normally when the bladder is filling the pressure within the bladder doesnt change. The bladder expands to accomadate the urine & when full & you feel the urge the pressure rises & you empty the bladder. When the bladder is "overactive" the pressure within the bladder can rise & urine leaks out, even if you only have a small amount of urine .First line of treatment is lifestyle modification. You should ensure you drink on average 1 1/2 litres of fluid per day depending on your size. You should avoid caffiene as this irritates the bladder , also fizzy & diet drinks. Alcholol makes you produce more urine .Pelvic floor exercises should be performed to tighten the pelvic floor & hopefully stop leaks. The bladder & bowel foundation have information sheets on overactive bladder & bladder retraining & they go through the lifestyle modifications. If you have tried these & you are still having urgency & urge incontinence there is medication called antimuscaranics. this medication allows the bladder to hold more & stop the pressure rising wthin the bladder. I would visit your Gp to discuss this.
