Peeing blood & blood clots !!

Hi, a friend of mine, has recently been passing blood, a lot including blood clots the size of a fingernail. He is male , 50 years old & a smoker. He has been to his G.P.& referred to guys hospital in London where he has had scans, & will be going in for a biopsy soon. They have told him he has kidney stones, which will be dealt with in March next year, but also a tumor in his bladder.Does this mean he has bladder cancer, and what stage might it be, if this is the case please ?

Am not sure this question is appropriate to answer to someone who is not the patient or indeed in a public forum. He needs to be asking these questions of the team who have booked him for the biopsy. It does however sound like he is having the right investigations.
