I am totally addicted to crusty white bread but it has to be really fresh and I attack it as soon as I get home. It does not make any difference if I choose wholemeal but white is the bad boy! Not at all bothered about chocoate, sweets or biscuits and very rarely eat these so what is it about the bread. Maybe it's the yeast as I love chelsea buns and hot cross buns. I try not to buy any of these products which is sad.

Hi

Thank you for your question and sharing your love of "crusty white bread"! I want to start by normalizing our feelings of fondness for particular food items as a rule of all people which are both highly satisfying and gratifying to our tastebuds. It is completely within normal functioning to be excited by certain tastes and flavors which then become recorded in our memories as a pleasant or unpleasant experience.

Cravings are not about your need for energy or nutrients — it is your brain calling for something that releases dopamine in the reward system of the brain. The same reward and pleasure centers of the brain that are triggered by addictive drugs like cocaine and heroin are also activated by food, especially highly palatable foods. Highly palatable foods are foods rich in sugar, fat and salt.

I would encourage to you to do some personal reflection exercises to gain further insight into your craving"
When do you crave it the most?
What time of the day?
What has your day been/looked like until that moment?
What feelings come up for you as you indulge?
