I suffer quite badly with ulticaria or hives sometimes it is so bad where i cannot stop scratching that I draw blood and it can last from 10 minutes up to 30 minutes then it just goes but I still have sore parts on my body where I have been scratching.I have had tests to check for any thing that I am allergic to and nothing showed up . I have had this for about 6 or 7 years now and nothing seems to help apart from anti histamine, but as I never know when it is going to happen I cannot take them until it happens. It is embarrassing and painful and I get depressed when I get this , It may be once in 3 or 4 months or can happened suddenly every few weeks. Just wondered if there is any help at all with this condition that you could advise on or if any one else suffers from the same ailment and has any ideas to help. Many thanks John King

Hello. I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering with your urticaria. A lot of allergy or dermatology services run specialist chronic urticaria clinics and it would be worth getting referred to one of these. There are various options of medication dosing and other newer treatments available now. It is worth taking daily, non-sedating antihistamine, if you are getting the hives quite frequently, as a background dose rather than trying to treat the hives when they occur. Please re-visit your GP and ask for a referral.

if you experience uricaria many times a month you might want to take a non-sedating antihistamine every day (cetirizine/loratadine/fexofenadine). The dose can be increased to 4 tablets a day if needed (as per national guidelines). Your GP can help; if it still does not control your skin symptoms you should be referred to an urticaria clinic. Chronic urticaria (daily or intermittent) is not due to allergy (food, pollen etc)
