I am 50 and my periods have practically stopped but I still get some mild cramping each month when my period would have been due. Is this normal?

I believe that even after periods stop (because our ovaries produce so little hormones that the womb lining is not stimulated to build up and then shed), there may still be some low level hormonal production which may cause some cyclical discomfort. Some of this discomfort may be due to effect on bowel function which can be influenced by hormones. Cyclical changes due to ovarian function will gradually reduce over time.
