Bowel problems

Why do I get constipated, have very bad stomach cramps like my insides are being pulled out but when I take what the doctors give me I end up with the runs?

Re: Bowel problems

Hi,

It sounds as though the laxative your GP has prescribed for you doesn't suit you. There are several different types of laxative available, so if you tell your GP about the problem you're having with your current treatment, I'm sure they'll be able to offer you a more suitable alternative.

It'd also be a good idea to revise your diet and lifestyle to ensure you eat plenty of fibre-containing foods including wholegrain bread, brown rice and pasta, porridge, fruit and vegetables, beans, peas and lentils. Making sure you drink plenty of fluids and take regular exercise can also help prevent constipation and keep you regular.

I hope this helps.
