Reluctant to have another smear test

I haven't had a smear test for about 10 or 15 yrs as I had a very traumatic and painful one back then so I'm very reluctant to have another one, but at the moment I haven't had a period for 4yrs until 3 days ago. I was doubled up in pain and I bled all day then it stopped but I've been in pain since it happened so I'm very very scared to have another smear test done so what should I do? Can you give me some advice please I would be really grateful? Thank you from Cindy.

Re: Reluctant to have another smear test

Dear Cindy,
I know that smear test can be uncomfortable at times but it is very important to have regular ones. At present given that you have not had a period for 4 years, then you had a very painful bleeding episode and have not had a smear test for that long, I would recommend to see your GP as soon as possible and have a general check up considering other factors such as your age and then your doctor will decide whether further gynaecological review is required or only a smear test.
