HPV screening

My health authority only screen for HPV not abnormal cells. They will only check for abnormal cells if HPV is present. I had abnormal cells removed about 20 years ago and I didn't have HPV then. What can I do to get them to check for abnormal cells?

Re: HPV screening

It is very unlikely they tested for HPV 20 years ago when you had an abnormal test result as testing for HPV prior to testing for abnormal cells has only recently been introduced to the UK. To reassure you, it is very unlikely that you will have abnormal cells if you do not have HPV -However, in view of your history, I would recommend you make an appointment with your GP and explain that you had previous abnormal results as this is likely to make a difference in terms of what they test for on a smear
