Smear test as a virgin

Why did my local practice nurses, still insist on me having a smear test, and a test for std, even after they examined me, and realized that I'd never had sex? (I resented the fact that they didn't believe me.) I reluctantly agreed to the smear! Then they cut my hyman, to gain access to my cervix. Does this mean that I'm not a virgin anymore? I wanted to be a life long virgin celebate.

Re: Smear test as a virgin

If you've never been sexually active, you may decide not to go for cervical screening when you are invited. But you can still have a test if you want one. If you have had sexual contact with a man or a woman even if this did not include penetrative sex (such as skin-to-skin contact of the genital area or sharing sex toys), then there is still a risk of contacting the HPV virus which is responsible for abnormal cells in the cervix. In this case we still recommend you have regular smear tests. There is a very small risk of developing abnormal cells in the cervix cancer if you've never had any kind of sexual contact with a man or woman and I guess this is why the importance of smear test was highlighted to you.
