hormonal acne

I have PCOS and Hirsutism. I have to wax my face and end up with large sore spots around my jaw line. I also have black heads and spots on my back and shoulders. I use witch hazel face wash and spot sticks. Is there anything else i can do to help get rid of this.

Re: hormonal acne

Thank you for your question.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome can be a cause for both acne and excessive facial hair.

If you want to consider dealing with both then Spironolactone may be a good option.

This will of course need to be discussed with your GP or if they are uncertain then a dermatologist will be able to prescribe. Spironolactone is a safe drug that has anti-hormonal properties and can work well in your case. However the pro's and cons will need to be discussed and its appropriateness in your case.

Creams such as Eflornithine can also have some impact on facial hair growth- something you may want to consider if you don't want to take tablets.

I hope that helps.
