Is there anything else I can do for more relief?

I’m a 55 year old who has had eczema all my life. My current routine to make life just about bearable is 500g Diprobase a week, Eumovate ointment every three days and Oilatum Emollient in the shower, I take fexofenadine and loratadine tablets. My skin doesn’t actually break open it’s more under the skin aggravation, my main problem is it is always so painful and tight despite moisturising every two hours, and I constantly scratch. Can you suggest anything different (or addition) to my routine that may give me a little more relief? I only wear cotton clothing. I use non bio in washing machine and never use conditioner. I’ve tried ointments instead of creams to moisturise but they just make me hot and itchy. Many thanks.

Like you I've had atopic eczema all my life and I'm 75--so you have my every sympathy.
Since it came on the market a year or so back I 've been buying 'Gladskin' for eczema. First brought to the UK's attention by the TV prog 'Trust me I'm a doctor---ie Michael Moseley'.
Comes as a gel or cream. I initially bought small samples of both to see which suited best and whether it'd work--which, for me, it did. I've been prescribed/tried all sorts of creams/lotions and potions over the years which gave relief for a bit then either ceased to be effective or damaged my skin.. However, so far, the Gladskin keeps working. Look it up on Amazon. Hope this helps.

The first suggestion would be to see your gp or dermatologist for a stronger steroid ointment. Eumovate is a strength of steroid that can be purchased OTC and is relatively weak especially for an adult. It would also be important to see your doctor for some routine blood tests, as sometimes there may be additional medical reasons why your skin may be itchy in addition to the eczema such as low iron, low vitamin D, thyroid hormone abnormalities. In severe cases your doctor may prescribe you a short course of oral steroids to help with the itching.
