Advice Please

I am male 74yo, after my keyhole surgery to remove my prostate due to cancer in 2006 I have embarrassingly suffered from what I can only describe as mucus with a faeces odour. The problem is intermittent which in itself can cause embarrassing situations ie damp lines on vinyl seats etc.
Just wondering if any advice on how to deal with this situation better.

Re: Advice Please

Thank you for posting a question.

You would benefit from discussing the Renew Insert with your GP as it helps to manage the symptoms that you describe.

The Renew insert is available via prescription and is easy to use, it comes in two sizes with an applicator.
The starter kit contains both sizes will help you determine which one suits you best. You can find more information on the Renew Medical UK website. https://renew-medical.uk/

Re: Advice Please

Hi Jon
Mucous naturally occurs in the bowel and acts as a lubricant to move stool through the system. I would suggest trying anal plugs to manage the leakage element. Some pelvic floor and sphincter exercises should also be tried to improve the tone and tolerance of the supportive structures of the bowel / bladder. Anatomical positioning when trying to effect a bowel movement can also encourage a better rectal emptying – keeping the knees above the hip level on the toilet opens up the rectum more effectively. Some of my patients have tried cardomen seeds or aloe vera capsules in their diet and report an improvement in the odour issues.
