Weak sphincter muscle

How can I assure myself of having no faecal accidents whenever I am out and about?
I have had accidents when I have been enjoying time with my friends children on the trampolines at a place called Jumpstreet and whilst I have been at work. I have a weak sphincter muscle. I was diagnosed with it over 10 years ago.
I am nearly 59 and work as a school crossing patrol officer.

Re: Weak sphincter muscle

Thank you for posting a question.

It sounds as though you have a degree of pelvic floor weakness. If you haven't already I would suggest that you ask your GP to refer you to your local Bladder and Bowel team who will be able to assess you and offer holistic advice and treatment. Pelvic floor exercises can help to improve the symptoms that you describe.

You would benefit from discussing the Renew Insert with your GP as it helps to manage symptoms of ABL.

The Renew insert is available via prescription and is easy to use, it comes in two sizes with an applicator.
The starter kit contains both sizes will help you determine which one suits you best. You can find more information on the Renew Medical UK website. https://renew-medical.uk/

Re: Weak sphincter muscle

Hi Deb
Do you still do structured pelvic floor and sphincter exercise to manage the weak sphincter you describe? These can help improve control particularly with high impact exercises such as trampolining. Anal inserts / plugs are also an easy way to manage ABL and build confidence when enjoying leisure activities.
