Chronic Kidney Renal Failure

I am 65 years of age and lost my right kidney in 2004 due to hydronephrosis and other problems. Since then I have maintained fairly well on one kidney and have regular kidney function tests (6 monthly). my medical records show me at Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Renal Disease, what does this mean for me at my age. My GP says I cannot take NSAIDS for my arthritis as this would shorten my life with reference to my kidney. I am worried about getting ill as I get older and concerned about renal failure, Thanks for listening.

Re: Chronic Kidney Renal Failure

If you have stayed stable for 15 years then that is a great sign
Surgical loss of kidney function- from a nephrectomy - is better than medical loss and thus you may be more protected than many people with CKD3
So you are likely to be fine but drink plenty to avoid infections, avoid high protein loads and avoid NSAIDS as your GP recommends
