Would a mitrofonoff be helpful ?

Hi, I've suffered with recurrent kidney infections for a number of years. I also have problems with emptying my bladder and often am in full retention. I have been self cathaterising for the last few years but of late have struggled with this massively. I am currently wearing a Foley cathater due to a recent sepsis infection which stemmed from polynephritis. It has been suggested that I have mitrofonoff surgery , would this be something worth considering? I could not have the sacromodulation due to epilepsy . I also have a connective tissue disease which is lupus managed .
I seem to be going round in circles and am feeling more and more poorly. I have no quality of life .
Many thanks. I look forward to your advice.
Natalie.

This is a very specialised area
but a mitrofanoff can be used as a continent form of a urinary diversion
it isn't usually used to prevent recurrent infections but might help
it is usually used if the urethra isn't functioning or safe.
You would need video urodynamics first
Our functional and reconstructive team at Guys would be able to asses things for you.
UCLH with Mr Dan Wood also excellent
