Lactose intolerance

What is the difference between an allergy and an intolerance?
I suspect I may have a problem with milk as I suffered from constant diarrhoea but since cutting dairy from my diet it has improved. How do I tell if this is a dairy allergy or just a lactose intolerance?

Re: Lactose intolerance

Thank you for you post,
There are breath tests for lactose intolerance, here is some further information: https://www.bsaci.org/resources/food-al ... ntolerance
If you are not at risk of an immediate milk allergy, you could try introducing lactose free cow's milk products. These are lactose-free, but still contain cow's milk protein - so will be tolerated in individuals with lactose intolerance, but not in individuals with delayed cow's milk protein allergy (immediate or delayed).
