smear test - size of speculum

i always ask for a small speculum but it has to be asked for and not offered. if women knew that a smaller speculum was available then i believe more would take the test. . Such a shame it is not offered as a matter of course as the first test can be so painful it puts people off for life. i had an awful test at 18 and would not have another for years till a male Aisan GP suggested the smaller speculum and not a problem after that. if i had not met him i can honestly say i would not have had another test - now 62

Re: smear test - size of speculum

You make a really good point !
I do think that more cervical screeners are offering a smaller ( often known as virgin speculum ) to women now however.
