The unfortunate answer is - Yes: It depends to some extent on how thoroughly the operation was performed, (of course including removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries) to prevent any small residual areas of endometriotic cells being stimulated by cyclical hormones.
Also, it's more difficult to see (& treat) endometriosis if it's in the space between the back wall of the vagina & front wall of the rectum (recto-vaginal septum). Women with endometriosis in this location will most likely have suffered exceptional pain when defecating on the first day or two of each period, and will be more likely than any others to suffer painful sex on all but the most shallow penetration, apart from in the 'spoons' & 'male astride' positions.
