Lichen Planus/Oral Lichen Planus

In November I developed Oral Lichen Planus and this then went onto lichen planus on my skin. Just before the lockdown I saw a dermatologist at the RVI (80 miles from where I live) I was given Betnovate ointment. Betamethasone 500 micro gram 3 times a day gargle. My skin is still itchy even though it is less affected, especially on my back, where of course I can’t reach. Due to the Lichen Planus pustules bursting near my anus I developed cellulitis in the leg which has lymphoedema. The dermatologist had suggested that I might have to try a Kenalog injection which I had last week. It doesn’t seem to have changed my skin much but my mouth is still hurting. I cannot use normal toothpaste and am having to use a child’s strawberry toothpaste. Please can you help me, especially with my mouth

Re: Lichen Planus/Oral Lichen Planus

I am sorry to hear that you are suffering so much. This forum is on Lichen Sclerosus rather than Lichen Planus. These are different conditions. If your main problem is in the mouth than I would recommend that you see your dentist or you can ask your GP to refer you to an Ear Nose Throat (ENT) specialist who would be able to treat your mouth. If your skin is still itchy than I would recommend you use a stronger topical steroid cream or discuss with your dermatologist if oral steroids or immunosuppressive medication would be appropriate.
