Hi,
Currently I have a congenital Spinal stenosis around L1/L2 plus a 2nd one at L5 and into the Cauda Equine as well as severe Spinal Osteoporosis and fractures at L3,4 and 5.
I was due to have spinal surgeryin January but the hospital discovered I am carrying the Lupus Anti-body which makes Surgery very risky and my surgeon is unlikely to go ahead.
He was hoping that as well as giving me less pain and helping with my walking that it would reduce the Total Bladder loss. Currently I have nosensation in my bladder or urethra and use NHS provided continence pads and all in ones (adult nappies), short of a urostomy which I don't really wantif it can be avoided is there any other treatment apart from ISC?
Thank you.
Kelvin

This is a complex case.
You appear to have 2 problems - firstly your bladder doesn't empty therefore you are reliant on self-catheterisation and secondly you are leaking between catheters.
There is no tablet treatment to restore bladder function and enable you to re-establish normal voiding. Sacral nerve stimulation may be worth exploring but I don't know the extent of your neurological condition.
The leakage in between catheters is easier to help with but most treatments run the risk of making the incomplete bladder emptying worse (eg tablets or Botox). Some of my neurological patients prefer me to give large dose of Botox which will mean they are fully dependant on ISC but the leaks between catheters are much reduced.

Thank you for the informative reply. Once the Welsh lock down is over and the NHS is up and running again I am due to see a Neurologist and i will bring this up.
