Oily acne prone skin

I always had really good skin until about 9 months after I gave birth to my little boy (who's now 27 months). I started getting horrendous acne - lumps would form under the skin and would end up like pits that would take forever to heal and have scarred. I was breastfeeding and initially thought that was the cause, so stopped at 20 months but my skin is still horrendous. You can often see the oil shining on my forehead despite using concealer and powder to cover it up. I've been prescribed doxycyclin by the GP which has improved things but my skin is nowhere near what it used to be.
How do I control the amount of oil, acne and hormonal imbalance?

Re: Oily acne prone skin

Hi Amy,

Thanks for posting. Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) is very effective at reducing the activity of the sebaceous glands - these are the glands which produce sebum, the oily substance that lubricates the skin. It is highly effective against acne but requires a prescription by a consultant dermatologist.

Good luck!
