Nighttime heartburn

Hi

I have GERD and get nighttime heartburn very regularly. I’ve tried avoiding large fatty meals in the evening and I take Gaviscon but its not that effective anymore. I’m really suffering from loss of sleep. What foods should I be eating to prevent the burn feeling and to help me drift off? Thanks

Re: Nighttime heartburn

Thanks for your question.

I would look at avoiding eating a big meal and spicy food before bedtime. Consider eating your evening meal earlier or having a lighter meal instead. As well as fatty food, you may want to reduce the amount of processed carbs too. Citrus fruits can also increase stomach acidity causing heartburn. It's probably worth noting down what you've eaten or drunk when your heartburn is particularly bad so that you can avoid it in the future.
