Wrinkles

As I am moving into the menopauses my skin is turning into my elderly mothers – ie all wrinkly; is there anything I can do to either prevent this as seems to be happening before my eyes! Someone mentioned to look at my oestrogen levels?

Re: Wrinkles

This frequently occurs in perimenopausal and menopausal women because skin loses collagen as oestrogen levels fall. Studies show that 30% of collagen is lost from the skin during the first five years of menopause! As collagen levels fall, skin loses it elasticity and begins to sag and wrinkle. However, there is much that can be done to improve and prevent wrinkling including a robust skincare regime!

I would advise you to incorporate the following ingredients into a regular skincare routine. These ingredients are proven to have anti-ageing effects and topical retinoids are the most effective in terms of treating and preventing wrinkles:
  • Vitamin C
Retinol (please look at my reply on the Retinol post re how these should be used)
    Hyaluronic acid
    Ceramides
    Sunscreen
