undetermined diagnosis

I have had LS on my neck for a number of years which was diagnosed via a biopsy from a dermatologist and have recently discovered a patch on my vagina. I saw my GP about it and she gave me dermovate ointment and sent me on my way saying it might be Lichen Sclerosis, should I have pushed for a dermatologist or gynaecologist appointment to determine whether it is LS and also for proper care to reduce the risk of scarring and losing integral parts of my genitalia or is the dermovate enough at this early stage?

Re: undetermined diagnosis

I think establishing a correct diagnosis is important. If your GP can be confident enough and willing to review you to see how the area responds to treatment then that may be enough. However, if you can't get that type of follow up then yes, I think it's reasonable to ask for a dermatology opinion. They can then formulate a treatment plan with you and it can then be relayed back to your GP for you both to have for the future. Your GP may have access to advice and guidance locally with a dermatologist. An appropriate photograph would enable the dermatologist to give that advice if they were confident enough with the quality of a photograph combined with a history of your symptoms.
