exercise

Over lockdown, I have definitely indulged more than I should have! So now I am really wanting to lose some weight and get exercising. However, my HS often causes a lot of discomfort and pain especially when exercising, so the thought is quite daunting. Could I ask for some advice/recommendations when it comes to exercising with HS? Are there any specific activities that would perhaps make things a little easier and be a little less uncomfortable? Thank you

Re: exercise

Sorry to hear about the discomfort caused by your HS. I was pleased to read that you are embarking on a journey of weight loss through exercise. This has many benefits beyond HS! Exercise and weight loss can lead to improvement in the symptoms of HS, however HS predominately affects skin folds which are subject to increased friction during such activities.

A two-pronged approach combining medical therapy and exercise will increase your chances of success. Medical therapies (e.g. anti-septic wash, antibiotics [lotions or tablets], retinoids, hormonal treatments etc) will stabilise your symptoms and help you to attain your exercise goals.

Please speak to your doctor (GP or specialist) about optimising your HS treatment.
