Losing weight is done through using up more calories than you take in. So, in theory, eating a little less food than you normally would eat at your current weight, should result in you losing weight on the scale.
This means you have used up more calories through daily activities (housework, your job, exercising, etc.) than you consumed.

I stopped drinking sodas :) That and I upped my water intake as well. Noticed that I lost a few pounds over the course of about 2 weeks. Its the baby steps that count!

Well I don’t count calories while losing weight. When I feel I am getting overweight and the weighing scale agrees, I start adding more fiber and protein and lower the intake of sugar and carbs. So, I always try to consume all nutrients as it is needed for the survival for our body.

The truth is, in fact, that salt is absolutely vital to your body’s health. It’s needed in the biochemistry of your cells. Yet even more obvious is that when you cut salt out of your diet, you actually inhibit your body’s ability to digest food! And, of course, that means putting on more weight and also limiting the number of nutrients you can absorb.
