Weightloss/blood sugar

Hello

Pretty new to this, but I would really like some advice. I am a 29 year old female, 165cm and 64kg. I know I am not overweight, but I am approaching the border, plus most of my weight is around my waist with a measurement of 78cm. I have been trying to lose weight for the past 4 months, but instead of losing I am actually gaining weight.

I now exercise 4 x a week a mixture of cardio and resistance training. In terms of diet, I have been cooking from scratch, using lean proteins, veggies ect. However I have problem with my blood sugar which makes me ravenous.

I am a final year medical student and during one of my classes I decided to test my blood sugar on the ward, I had eaten breakfast around 4 hours prior to this and my reading was 26 mg/dl (1.44mmol/l). My teacher (internal specialist) told me to re- test, it was the same again. She asked if I felt okay, which I did. She said I should perhaps monitor my blood glucose over a period of time. I also mentioned that I do get episodes of hypoglycaemia, with anxiety, sweating and tachycardia.
I monitored my blood glucose, my fasting glucose was measuring at around 50-65 mg/dl, postprandial 30 mins post meal was normal, but around 3 hours later it was very low, sometimes below 20mg/dl in this case the glucometer didn't even give me a measurement because it didn't measure.
(i used different glucometres at home and in the hospital).

My hypoglycaemia is sometimes silent, severe or just manifests in being ravenous. I am concentrating on low GI foods. I feel like I am doing all the right things, but nothing is helping.

My Dr teacher suggested I try and get a referral to an endocrinologist because I would need a more detailed work up, however I don't even feel my GP wants to know or even has that much knowledge in the area. It's more like " go away and tell me how you feel in 6 months". I haven't told her I am a medical student because I just don't want her to think I am a know it all, but I don't know what to do.

Are these two issues related ect ?
