How to calculate the excess body fat

The body mass index (BMI) is only related to body weight but does not directly reflect the amount of body fat. For example, a healthy, muscular person may have a BMI in a very high range, therefore, it is necessary to calculate the body fat in the second step.

Re: How to calculate the excess body fat

When calculating the percentage of fat, the key difficulty lies in determining the body's fat mass - it cannot be recognized using conventional measurement methods or an online calculator. To measure the amount of fat, either special electronic devices (for example, “smart” scales, using the method of bioelectric impedance analysis) can be used, or a special device for measuring the thickness of the fat folds on the stomach - a caliper.

After measuring the fat folds with a caliper, the result is compared with averaged tables (you will find them online) that show the approximate percentage of fat in the body. Even though this method for determining the percentage of fat has errors, it is convenient to use it to evaluate the progress of a diet for weight loss.

The action of electronic systems for analyzing body composition (“smart” scales) to determine the percentage of body fat is based on passing extremely weak and safe electric currents through tissues. The signal transmission rate and the percentage of its losses are analyzed - adipose tissue delays the signal, while water and muscles conduct it almost entirely.

This method also does not determine the exact percentage of fat in your body, but only compare the indicators with the average numbers recorded in the device’s memory and show an approximate result. The total error depends on the number of measuring electrodes, as well as on the temperature of the body, the presence of food in the stomach, and several external factors.

To calculate body fat percentage, add your waist and hip measurements, and then subtract the neck measurement to determine your circumference value. For example, if your waist is 30, your hips are 36, and your neck is 13, your circumference value would be 53.

Its true, BMI dos not mean a thing, people would say i am quite muscly, i am overweight according to BMI. What makes the difference its making sure the heart is beating well, and the brain is active and not giving you major stress. Once we work on our minds and bring it into submission, our lives will be better and personally we will be more better off.
