If you have schizophrenia do you find others understand what schizophrenia is?

Do people understand it ? My Mum was labelled with it . Aged 16 I had very complex mental health issues. Reflecting - I was given severe treatment which blocked a lot of my childhood out . At 18 I was working .I had thrown away all my tablets and done cold turkey . Everything was fine until at 21 I had minor breakdown as somebody re -entered my life. I was named schizophrenic , manic , neurotic by different consultants . At 24 years old I met my husband . We have 5 children - all successful , married 31 years . Since the age of 24 I have had no more episodes .No medication . I have worked in stressful jobs . My parents have both passed away and a variety of other stress related scenarios to endure .
I hope this is a positive for anyone who is labelled . Good people around you can be life changing.
