A friend with depression

So I have a friend who suffers from depression, but she really doesn’t want to go to the doctor or any specialist to seek help. Other people in our circle of friends are getting annoyed and wanted to keep distance, but I know if I leave her alone, she might harm herself. I was thinking exercising or self-help groups might cure her, but my friend doesn’t like jogging and won’t even talk about what she’s feeling. I searched more ways online and found about this gong meditation London session. I think it fits her personality better since you only need to lie down on the floor and listen to gong sounds. Have you guys tried it? And was it effective? Thanks to anyone who’s going to answer!

Re: A friend with depression

Hi EllieGoddard,

Thank you for your post on our friends depression. What a great friend you are looking out for her. :)

Unfortunately we are unable to give specific medical advice or recommendations here, but hopefully other members will have experienced a gong bath/therapy session and can give you an insight.

Kind regards

Re: A friend with depression

hey i have never tried a gong therapy session or anything but I think the way you are continuing to support your friend is awesome... I think that's the best thing that anyone could do! If she ends up trying it I wonder how it'll go (sorry this isn't more helpful)

Hey EllieGoddard,

It's really good to know that you are with your friend in her hard times. I have never tried this that it will reduce the depression or not by lying down on the floor and listen to gong sounds. One of my family members was going through depression and he was the same as your friend that he doesn't want to a specialist. But he prioritizes himself and made a good healthy routine, indulging himself in exercise, eating healthy, spending time with his loved ones, and even got a pet whom he spent most of his time. He tries to keep himself busy which helped him get out of depression. You can suggest these to your friend.

I hope your friend gets well soon.

Re: A friend with depression

First off, you being there for her is the biggest thing ever, In these times it is such a rare thing. I haven't done that session but a similar situation happened to one of my best friend when she got dumped by her boyfriend. She was going through like hell, being silent all the time, mood off every now and then, and also there was a time when she didn't even laugh for the first whole month. I was so concerned about her. The best thing you can do is to be there for her for everything even if she won't tell you anything because eventually, she will start telling you soon like what all she is feeling, what she wants to do, etc. So never leave her. Talk to her. Make her busy. Try using some jokes on yourself and do stupid things to make her laugh. Trust me it works. Hope she gets all better soon.

She might want to try online therapy. I think that would be the best for her.

You're a nice buddy, but I have no knowledge of the therapy you described. If her depression is severe, she should consider the great Spravato Treatment.
