Is symptom-less gluten intolerance possible?
My son had a panel of RAST food allergy tests done last fall, and his results appeared to show that he is allergic to just about everything, including gluten. He has not had typical gluten allergy symptoms - gas, bloating, stomach ache, etc. How likely is a false positive in this case?

RAST tests can't give you a diagnosis of allerg y- this needs a combination of clinical history and tests together. The test detect allergic antibody but this is commonly raised to many foods and doesn't necessarily indicate allergy. The tests should only be done when you can have them properly interpreted by a doctor who has taken a thorough history and understands the context of the tests. If you don't have this, then the tests are pretty much worthless, I'm afraid.
