Seafood

After allergy testing in my teens I had an extreme reaction to Cod and was told to avoid seafood, particularly white fish and shellfish. However, I had already eaten tinned tuna for years and still do without any reactions. Why would I be severly allergic to some fish but not tuna?

Re: Seafood

the protein in fish that causes most allergy is present in much smaller quantities in tuna than in white fish. Canning tuna also makes it less allergenic so this is a common experience. However, I would still advise fish allergic patients to discuss the possibility of trying tuna with their doctors first.
