PCOS

hello,
Ive been diagnosed with PCOS some years ago now and suffer with excessive facial hair which I was recommended the Dianette pill for. Although this has slowed the hair growth down, im still removing on a daily basis and have been told by a GP that its not recommended for long term use due to increased risk of Dvt's.
Is there any other products i could use to reduce the facial hair that are safe to use??
Ive also tried Metformin tablets and Vaniqua cream which both were unsuccessful for me.
Im also under a hormone specialist and she perscribed Spironolactone tablets and they too were unsuccessful.
I feel like im running out of options and don't want to accept that being a woman and growing facial hair is normal and nothing i can do about it.
Its extremely embarrassing and my face gets sore removing hair daily.
Thankyou for your time and your advice would be most helpful.

Re: PCOS

Hi

Vaniqa is often abandoned because it was not used correctly - if you have had any lasering, waxing or even moisturiser on it will not be effective, plus it must be used on such untreated skin for a minimum of THREE months.

The side effects of PCOS will often improve with weight loss and more regular cycles. Cyproterone 12.mg is another, but unlicensed treatment - often it means having to buy a pill cutter in a chemist's shop to cut up the 50mg tablets into quarters, and it requires regular liver function blood testing.

I Have PCOS

Good afternoon,

I have been diagnosed with PCOS for 10 years now. I just wanted to ask what are the best vitamins and minerals to take to enable my periods to come more regularly and also to enable me to conceive naturally.

I had my first cycle last month which lasted 7 days is this normal? And does having a period mean that I am ovulating?

I have purchased these vitamins are they all ok to take together and will they help to regalate my periods and help me to conceive naturally?

Bio-Health Extra Magnesium

Vertese Flaxseed Oil 600mg

Vitabiotics Cardioace Plus

Vitamin B Complex

Re: PCOS

If you are trying to conceive, the most important vitamin supplement is folic acid, which helps the formation of the baby's spine. While a general healthy diet with a range of foods and plenty of vegetables and fruit is important, additional vitamins are unlikely to affect your periods. Maintaining a healthy weight, or losing weight if necessaary is the most important aspect of improving egg production, as shown by regular periods.

Re: PCOS

Hi,

I understand that folic acid is the most important vitamin, but is that not when the foetus is already in the womb folic acid helps with the baby’s spine, am I right?

I am on the search for vitamins and minerals that will help with me ovulating naturally and also filling in all the nutrients that I am not getting.

My research showed all of that these vitamins Bio-Health, Extra Magnesium, Vertese Flaxseed Oil, Vitabiotics Cardioace Plus and Vitamin B Complex will help me to ovulate naturally and give my body all the nutrients it needs.

Also I have had a child before but it wasn’t naturally I was given chlomid I didn’t conceive on the single dose for the first month I conceived on the double dose in the second month. I really don’t want to take this route again I am determined to try the natural way This is why I am trying to gather all the information I need.

Thank You So Much..

Re: PCOS

Hi - from your previous history, if you have PCOS and required a double dose of clomid to help you ovulate/conceive, then it is exceptionally unlikely that this will happen spontaneously in the future - you can never be 100% certain about this, but how long do you want or need to wait?

No amount of vitamins will make a blind bit of difference to your health in general or your fertility in particular if you have a normal diet (including the 5-a-day fruit/veg). A health food specialist / nutritionalist or homeopath will doubtlessly tell you differently, but the fact remains that your body takes what it needs from the food you eat and no more, so any extra nutritional supplements - regardless of whether they have a sciency-sounding name or not - are simply not absorbed. All that will happen when you take these tablets is that you'll feel a bit better for having taken them, be slightly out of pocket, and your health food store will be richer.

In order to ovulate, you need the correct amount of estrogens/androgens/follicle stimulating & luteinising hormones to be produced in the correct sequence & correct balance. Harsh as it may seem, and sorry to disappoint you, but vitamin overdosage is unlikely to achieve this effect.

Re: PCOS

Hi,

Ok, I needed to wait until I had lost weight then when I was at my normal size I was given perova or something like that to regalate my periods I think I was taking this for about 3 months. Then once my periods was sorted I was given clomid if I remember rightly I had to take 5 tablets in one month that did not work. Then the following months take 2 tablets a time for 5 days and that worked for me.

I was trying my best to treat myself the natrual way instead of having all the trips to the hospital every week. But I guess I will have to as what I had in mind is not going to work.

And just to let you know I am at my normal weight now thats way I am ready to start this process.

Thanks so much for you advice I really appriciate it psco is a pain.
