Pallative care

I would like to know if someone is on pallative care how should there last few months should be like. My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011 and was given medication to help. Unfortunately the medication stopped working and was advised to have radiotherapy. The radiotherapy went well but a month later my father became very ill and had anaemia where he had many blood tranfusions and other complications. The PSA was controlled but my dad became more frail so treatment was not given one time. In November 2019 the oncology department requested a blood test and two days later my dad went into hospital for two months. Whilst he was in hospital he was coherent and able to talk to family members. Unfotunately my father had to go into a care home and since he went in he changed and deterioated very quickly and became very weak and was unable to talk to us much.

I would like to know if there could have been anything to improve my father's health as we cannot understand why he was such a different person from being in hospital to being in a carehome

Hospice is comfort care without curative intent; the patient no longer has curative options or has chosen not to pursue treatment because the side effects outweigh the benefits. Palliative care is comfort care with or without curative intent.
