Alopecia Areata

I have been suffering from hair loss since 2 years. But recently I noticed that bald patches started to appear on my scalp. I doubt it is Alopecia Areata. Does anyone know about this?
I read somewhere that hair transplantation can fix hair in these bald areas. When I searched it on Internet, I also read that it can produce life long results that are so natural. I think it is really great then. And I am considering 'Seager hair transplant clinic' in Toronto.
But I need to know whether it is Alopecia Areata or not. What are the symptoms of it? Does anyone know?
